Christmas vs. Thanksgiving

This is why I like Thanksgiving better than Christmas. This has not always been my opinion however after this past year I have changed my mind. November 20th my Grandfather passed away and I got the call and flew to TX as soon as I could. I landed that evening about the same time he passed away. I tried the best I could to get there so I could see him but I didn't make it. I spent the next five days or so with all my family. As I was there I forgot how much I loved and missed my family. I flew home the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and spent Thanksgiving day with Jeff's family. Jeff's family is one of those Kodak type pictures familys. His whole family is now in ministry and his parents are wonderful. His brother is pretty cool and has a great wife. His grandparents are really cool to. His whole family is great. Once I left Thanksgiving with his family I began to think about it compared to my family. HA! My family, I love them so very much but man do they have problems!
While we were there for Thanksgiving my wife left after lunch with a few of the ladies and went and bought Christmas decorations for our house. I didnt mind but for most people and for the business world the "Holiday Season" began right after Halloween. This has always drove me nuts but after this year it really bugs me. This Thanksgiving has shown me how much I love my family, how greatful I am for them.
It sad to think that the loss of my Grandpa is what it took for me to be truly thankful for everything. Making this statement, I have to realize this is the purpose of Thanksgiving. TO be thankful for yes the Pilgrims and those guys but overall a holiday and a time for Thanksgiving.
Christmas is all about Jesus right? Well I think it should be but now the Holidays have taken over and Jesus has been written out of the equation.
SO this is why I like Thanksgiving better than Christmas.
