Out of the Box

How many of you grew up in the typical youth ministry? Sunday morning, SUnday night, and Wednesday night. THis is how it seemed to be all the time. Even now, for those of you that are youth pastors, is this similar to what you do now?
I have been challenged to think through why we do this? Here at Calvary we have Sunday morning and Wednesday night but why? Obviously, I know that the idea is to reach kids for Christ and to teach them to grow in their walk. However, I have been thinking through some of this and wondering if this is the best approach to accomplishing what I believe my job is.
I have thought of doing away with Wednesday nights and just keeping Sunday morning.
More is less.... sometimes.
THink of this, how many of you remember exactly all three points for last Sunday? Even as a youth pastor I struggle to remember what I spoke about two weeks ago. I have the understanding that a wealth of knowledge is useless unless its remembered and then practiced.
SO what will I do to change this? Im not rightly sure yet but I would love to hear what your thoughts are. Or maybe you have something to share with me about all this.
Talk To ME!!

Well....my dad always says, "A 'fully' devoted Christian only gets 4hours of church a week?! Why would I want to limited that?" That is assuming Sunday morning = 2hours, Sunday night = 1hour, Wed night = 1 more hour.
Sometimes less is more and I really liked the book Simple Church and all that jazz, but the saying still holds true, "the more hooks you got in the water, the more fish you are going to catch."
Think strategically about your area and the students you're trying to reach? Will they respond well to a great production w/ an awesome band, fog machine and great stage lights? Will they respond well to 6couches w/ cups of venti orange frappucinos? Think about your target audience...and attract them.... maybe have different services, style, strategies? In the words of Pastor Brian Moore..."Don't just think outside the box...BLOW IT UP!!!"
I read Steven Furtick's blog earlier and he made this challenge to his staff..."Whenever I start talking about an idea and it's too small, call me out on it"...In the word's of Brian's graduation speech...DREAM BIG! Because we serve a big God, so think crazy, act crazy! Good luck, buddy...and I am going to call you sometime this week!! Things have been rough around here! Not bad rough, just busy rough! Love you, bud..c ya
