Church Gone Fishing!

This is a post about Church and fishing. The analogy is going to be used that talks about the church and fishing so here we go!
One thing that I have noticed is that too many churches and even ministries are fishing for men and they arent getting anything. So what do most churches and ministries do? When they are getting fish that add more lures to the water and they "fix" up the lures that are already in the water. What does this look like? They change the lure, they change their name, or change their worship, or they change their look, or they change versions of the Bible, or change whatever. They feel that the problem is the lure however the issues is the fact that the fish arent biting because they arent hungry. No matter what you do, your not going to get a fish to bite unless they are hungry. No matter how cool and enticing the lure is, if they aint hungry they aint gonna bite.
What does this look like in youth ministry? We try all these things to get kids, food, games, all this stuff, but if the fish aint hungry they aint gonna eat.
If the fish are hungry, they will eat, regardless of how attractive the lure is!
Solution: Fish in ponds and places where the fish are hungry and biting!
What does this look like for churches and ministries?
Churches, fish in the ponds that are biting. Look around and see where the people your are currently reaching and focus there. If its young couples with kids, put your lures and in that water, put your finances there, why? BECAUSE THERE BITING! If your reaching and gaining middle age or older families then see what it is that is attracting them there, and starting fishing.
NOTE: Dont take all your lures out of the water but focus your attention where the fish are biting!
What does this look like in youth ministry?
Find where students are coming from. If you have a couple of kids who are bringing their friends, then toss your lures at them! If they are the sporty type then use those types of lures to get those kids in, why? Because you have seen them biting already! If the kids that seem to keep coming and bringing friends are the skater type, then start finishing around the skate parks and stuff... Catching my drift!
You have to find out where the fish are biting and fish there. We cant keep spending time, energy and resources that arent catching any fish!
Happy Fishing!
